Clive Barker has got to be one of my favorite horror writers.  If you have never read one of his books then you are missing out, man!  Creepy, gory and full of details, you don't want to read his work before going to bed... unless you want nightmares!

My first taste of Barker was when I saw the movie Nightbreed.  What a wicked concept!  I enjoyed it so much that I bought the book Cabal, which the movie is based on.  Next I saw Hellraiser, which to me is one of the most goriest and chilling horror movies I've ever seen.  Visually it is astounding!  After that I picked up anything and everything I could get my hands on that Barker wrote.  Trust me when I tell you that his works are addicting!  He has written over a dozen books and been a creative force behind thirteen major motion pictures.  He is truly talented and inspiring.

Clive Barker was born on October 5, 1952 in Liverpool, England.  He studied English and Philosophy at Liverpool University.  Early in his writings he started out with pure horror, mostly in the form of short stories.  Later he moved to epic fantasy set in modern-day with some horror elements in it. After the Books of Blood: Volumes One to Three were published, Stephen King is quoted as saying "I have seen the future of horror and its name is Cliver Barker."

The most successful of all of his movies has to be Hellraiser which is based on his novella The Hellbound Heart. Other movies he's produced and directed are The Candyman trilogy, Lord of Illusions, Gods and Monsters, and Saint Sinner. He has even acted in a few movies, such as Salome, The Forbidden and Stephen King's Sleepwalkers.

Cliver presently lives in Los Angeles, California, with his partner, David Armstrong, daughter Nicole and his many pets (dogs, fish and a bird named Malingo).
